Can't Access Safe Mode When Booting

Got a problem trying to access safe mode ..... when I hit F8 as the PC boots there is no WINDOWS ADVANCED OPTIONS MENU instead I get a BOOT MENU prompting selection of a BOOT FIRST DEVICE. Irrespective of the selection made the PC will then continue to boot into Win XP (Home Edition / SP2).

PC will boot into safe mode when run from configuration utility. Any ideas how I can get to WINDOWS ADVANCED OPTIONS MENU during boot?

Thanks

Thanks Yoda Knight ..... lo and behold there is the ADVANCED OPTIONS MENU! It was one of the few occasions that I hadn't tried pressing F8!
