canonscan on boot up

On many occasions when I boot up the computer the Canon Scan facility appears on screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the scanner software but the wretched scanning page opens up. Is there any way I can prevent this.

Thanks VoG for that. Have run MSCONFIG but can see no reference to scanning. I am on Windows 98, am I overlooking or misunderstanding something.

They do not put a switch on these devices do they, I leave the power jack out of mine until I need it, I am thinking of fitting an in line switch to the cable so I don't have to pull the jack out all the time.
