Canon Pixma MP600 not recognising ink tank

My 7 month old, but used only very lightly for 4 months, MP600 MFD has lately developed the fault of not recognising the Magenta ink tank.

No amount of fault diagnosis does any good. The tank light indicates satisfactory on plug-in, but goes out when the printer lid is closed, resulting in the following fault to be displayed on the MFD's LCD: 'U150 - The following ink tank cannot be recognised', above an image showing the Magenta tank to be at fault. The amber ink fault light also comes on.

There is plenty of ink in the tank. It looks, apart from the colour, exactly the same as the others. It ought to, I've printed less than 10 photos with it.

I've emailed the suppliers for advice but wondered if anybody knows of a quick fix from personal experience.

I bought a new ink tank and this resolved the fault.
