I have a Canon Pixma MG3550 All-in-One which will not print directly from the scanner. It will scan and print via a laptop (Vista SP2) but when I press the scan button on the machine it spits out a blank sheet and the alarm light flashes twice and error 2,140,21 comes up on the laptop. I have re-installed the printer using the disc but no change and the printer can be used as normal, only the direct scan and print is a problem. Internet forums suggest re-seating the ink cartridges? done that as well. Would welcome advice before the machine goes back under warranty.

Answer

As it prints OK from the laptop then this suggests that the ink cartridges are seated properly.

If it scans and prints OK when disconnected from the laptop then its likely to be the driver.

If it wont scan and print when disconnected from the laptop then its likely to be a fault with the device.
