canon mp610 will not work

  jakag 00:27 20 May 2008

I have just bought a new canon mp610 but when installing from cd I got to the part when the printer needed connecting i received the message
The printer is detected please wait until the installation is complete
after about 4 minutes the message came up
the printer is not detected check the connections

after a few attempts I got past this stage but the printer will not work, when trying to print I get printer not responding, I did find that it was ticked as printer port1 but i changed it to usb but this made no difference, when i remove the usp connection i here the ding to tell that something has been removed or put on.

I am using win xpI did try on another machine which had win2000 the same problem.
any ideas please

Can you try using a different cable that you may have spare? Sounds like it may be a damaged cable.

I have just been and borrowed a cable and all is fine now, go invest in a new cable.
