Canon i850 printer malfunction.

  Daibus 16:21 31 May 2007

I have not used my Canon i850 printer for a month or two but today when I switch the printer on the amber light on the top keeps flashing which makes the machine unoperative.

The cartridges are fine and my PC recognises the printer but when I actually go to print the process stalls.

Any ideas?

Disconnect the printer and then un-install and re-install the printer drivers

Many thanks - I will try that.

I installed the latest drivers for this printer but no joy.

The amber light on the top of the machine keeps flashing even when the Canon is not actually connected to the PC but just to the power only.

Any more ideas gratefully accepted.

Have a look in Printer preferences; Maintenance.

Check the settings for Auto Power On and Auto Power Off

Have you tried running cleaning it? If you've not used it for a while the ink on the heads may have dried. I'm not sure about your model but most have a self-clean applet. Otherwise, I don't know - wipe the heads very gently with a damp cloth or something. Worth a try.

You could also trying walking cleaning it or even standing still cleaning it.

Many thanks for all your help - I will try giving the printheads a clean but if it needs a new one it seems they cost around £74 unless there is a company with a good deal?
