cannot upgrade to Winxp Pro

Have I dropped a clanger?
I bought a used version of WinXP Pro Upgrade, to upgrade from XP HE.
When I went to install the upgrade, the window options opened. I clicked Install and was told, Cannot install because the installed version is a newer version than the disk?

any advice please?

bad disc, get another, plobably n old disc, kept back.

This could be because you have SP1/2 installed with Home Edition. You can only do a direct upgrade if it is an actual upgrade. If the Pro disk is an old version you would need to downgrade the HE click here or do a fresh install.
The question is do you really need XP Pro that much?

thanks for the response, we need the Pro edition because there are apparently features within it that are not in HE that improve the ability for web site construction while using FP2003.
We have already noticed a difference between the two (HE & Pro) on another PC.

If I unintall the SP2 from my machine, can I reinstall it again?

Yes you can reinstall it either from Windows Updates, an SP2 CD if you have one or with Autopatcher from click here

Sorry, wrong info - Autopatcher is for updates don't think it includes SP2.
