Cannot see dvd drive

Hi guys, a friend of mine has brought me a laptop to fix, he has bought it second hand but had no sound, this was easily fixed but then I discovered that the dvd/cd drive is not being recognised, either in my computer or device manager. The laptop is E-Sstem 3090 uk and origonaly had vista installed but now has xp pro with 512 mb ddr2 ram. I can't see how to phisicaly remove the drive so as to prompt to re-install, my external burner is instantly recognised, any Ideas!!!

go to device manager - drives - select the drive and then right click properties and uninstall. Now reboot and with luck it will be found and installed.
