recently, i keep getting an error message when opening IE6 - IE6 has encountered a problem and needs to close. when clicking on link for info being sent to microsoft, it mentions "kernel32.dll"
I cannot access the internet now as IE6 will not start.

I have gone into control panel and add/remove windows components but IE6 is showing up as taking 0mb!

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

followed all instructions for repair using sfc /scannow, and the ie.inf file reinstall, but no joy.
with the ie.inf file, I cannot install from my windows disk as it cannot find the path for the file?

is there anyway of reinstalling IE6 without having to reinstall xp? my original disk is xp home SP1.
thanks

How about installing IE7, And see if that clears it up.

Thats a good idea, why don't you try that.

You will need to download the latest security updates from Microsoft which includes IE7.

On second thoughts this may not work because you have XP Home (SP1)....if it does not work then suggest you download and install SP2 from the same site, this may also fix the problem you currently have with IE6 !

thanks for the suggestions, I should have said that I'm already running with SP2 and have all the latest downloads up to 2 wks ago. I cannot open IE6 to get onto the MS support site and to download any other updates

Try downloading them one at a time from here, click here
