cannot open .exe programs

  GEEKSTA 16:21 08 Dec 2007

Everytime i open an .exe program such as Internet Explorer or limewire , a message comes back saying
"Windows cannot find specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"
even though i am a computer administrator??

sometimes the message comes up and sometimes it doesnt.???

What do i do to fix this problem??

I'm not sure I follow.

An .exe program is an executable program normally used as the first step to installing a new program or piece of software.

Exactly what sort of .exe associated with Internet Explorer or Limewire are you referring to?

a comment ;as you are using limewire you may well have downloaded an undesireable to your computer

such file sharing is never healthy for one's computer

You could try repairing the file association click here

What is the OS ?

If Vista, you may need to run the program with Elevated Rights.

I suggest you run a registry cleaner such as ccleaner click here or/and Winaso regopt version click here

And im not going to comment on Limewire !!...ok i did

you have been using Limewire for file sharing?
you may find this worth reading

also comments from another site

'as long as you're using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking (utorrent, Azureus, Morpheus, Limewire, etc.) and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur.'

' When you use Peer-to-peer (P2P) programs, you are downloading software from an UNKNOWN source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software.'

it may well be that you have downloaded something that has messed up your computer?

you may need a specialist forum to check out the computer for you and see what if anything can be done to restore your computer to health

one hopes you have your original installation CD and licence key to hand ?

and you have not yet said which version of windows you are running?( or now attempting to run)

you might do well to register with ONE of these specialist forums (there are others to choose from but these are reputable ) to get the computer checked out BUT be advised that some will now refuse to clean a computer if it is proved to be infected from using P2P file sharing click here
