I am trying to connect my lap top to my desktop they are both on windows 98 .
I have done the following .
1. Installed and checked both the network cards
2. Installed a crossover cable between the two.
3. .Given each computer a IP address.
4. Given each computer a identification number.
5. On each of the computers I did the following.
6. Made The C drive sharing with full access.
7. Gone into Network Neighbourhood click on relevant network card icon then clicked add .clicked on”Protocal “clicked add.then clicked on “client for micro soft network” then clicked add then clicked TCP/IP then add.
8. It then comes back as on the Network Neighbour as network card with Tcp/ip.
9. I then ping it to find its reading the other computer and it s fine .It reads the other computers ip address. Then I clink “find computer” and it finds the identification of the other computer. But when I click on that Icon its says Unavailable also when I click on the Network Neighbour ICON it says Network is unavailable.
10. What IM I doing wrong?pleeeease.

Are they both in the same workgroup? EG "home" Do you have both machines firewalled? If yes then you only need the hosty to be firewalled not the client.
