cannot install windows on new hard drive

just built a new computer installed windows xp pro no problem, then when i updated on windows website it rebooted however upon rebooting it now says disk boot error, now ive had this before but this time, ive noticed that when i went into see the partition information, it has gone back to its RAW state with no partitions, now when trying to reinstall windows it lets me format the partition, then copies files, then it reboots to start the install process but then does nothing, use the bootable xp disk again and voila no partition and back to its RAW state?
Im not suggesting that the windows website had anything to do with it, but if it allowed me to setup windows and partitions before why not now?

than windows related. I'm thinking maybe a duff HDD here.

Have you tried: click here and run the online seatools?

Is the drive formatted in the correct manner?
Seems obvious , but in the eagerness to do things,
stuff can be overlooked ;-)
