Can anyone help me. I have recently purchased a diamond max plus 9 160GB hard drive. I tried to format my old one which is still in the system and is a 12.1GB seagate ST313021A. Unfortunatley when i try to format it from within windows (going to start, run and typing cmd) it says "format cannot run because the format is in use by another process, format may run if this volume is dismounted first. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume". So after typing yes it says "Cannot lock the drive the volume is still in use". I have no idea where to go from here. Can someone offer any assistance. I'm running WinXP PRO by the way.

try doing it from safe mode, I take it that your xp installation is on the 80gig drive

why not format the drive with XP

Pop the Xp disc in and boot from CD and it will Format the HDD'S for you

you will have to change the boot sequence in the BIOS
