Cannot delete System Volume Information

Hi - I've got an empty folder on the desktop, size 0 bytes, created in 2008 (it hasn't been on the desktop for that length of time) and when I try to delete it, I get the above message, followed by 'Access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.'

Any idea what it is? Running XP Home.

Not sure but as it is empty it should be all right to delete it.
Maybe drag it to the Recycle Bin and drop it in there.
But to be in the safe side wait for further comments from others.

By default "system vol. info. files" are a hidden file so why you would want a folder on your desktop is beyond me...

MAT ALAN - heaven knows where it came from! I've never noticed it before and I do tidy up my icons and shortcuts on a regular basis.

Perhaps I'll just shove it in a corner and forget about it.

if the prog in the link does not remove it log in as administrator or in safe mode...

I loved Unlocker on my XP system.

Now on W7, it doesnt work.
Tried a few others.

The other day I wanted to tidy up my Ext HDD files and directories. Too many multiple backups and copies.

It had a Sys Vol Info directory in it. I could not get rid of it.
File Assassin and about four other utils would not do it. I was the owner/full control/full admin permission/special permissions set.
I got very annoyed.

Ended up copying my much reduced number of tidied files back to the laptop and reformatting the ext HDD.
Not an option on a main c drive though.
