Cannot connect second computer

For weeks I have been trying and failing to add my W98se Laptop to my
Wireless Network which has Voyager2091 and a WXP2 Laptop.
After the XP Wizard has transferred the Network Setup, by USB Flash Drive,
to computer 2 (W98se) and has
installed its files it reboots the W98se computer. Then as the Wizard
reappears
it says it cannot complete the Network because it cannot find info on the
hardware, which it says must be installed first. The computer then finishes
booting without the Network being established
and the two computers are still unable to see each other.
BUT the Modem / Router, the BT Network Card and computer 1 (WXP2) are all
installed and running.
We know the BT Card is OK because we access Broadband on the W98se
machine, and have done so just before trying to get the Network Setup to
work.
Can you advise me what to do now?

If both the Windows XP PC and the Windows 98SE PC have internet access via the router then they are already networked. Forget wizards and forget USB flash drives - you don't need either!

You do need to set at least one folder in each PC as "Shared" in its Properties. In the Network Properties of both PCs you need to have these two installed:

1) Client for Microsoft Networks
2) File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

In the Network Properties box in Windows 98SE, you should click the File & Printer Sharing button and tick one or both boxes as appropriate.

Any firewall software needs to be configured to allow access to the networked computers. This may involve entering their IP addresses in a "trusted" area.
