Someones old PC, PSU blown unable to source replacement
I'm try to connect a win98 HDD to another old PC to retrieve data and provide access until they can afford to replace.

Cannot connect to Internet.
PC has Realtek Fast ethernet controller PCI card works ok on ME and connects to my router. When using win98 drivers installed and shown as ok in Device Manager, both green LEDS lit but no connection to web page when running off 98.

LAN settings set to Auto detect
What else am I forgetting?

All help appreciated.

Thanks VoG™

Tried but no go.

How do I get into "Services" in win 98?

When you say the LAN settings are set to Auto, does this include IP address and DNS server in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)?

thats why I need to get into services to make sure DHCP is running.

Woodchip will be your best bet on this one because he still uses 98 all the time for surfing.

"I'm try to connect a win98 HDD to another old PC to retrieve data and provide access until they can afford to replace."

Have you managed to install (I assume as a slave drive) the hard drive in the new PC and retrieve the data you wanted?

Which OS is the new PC using?

How did your friend connect to the internet previously? Is it a BB connection or dialup? Did he connect using a router or a modem?

OH and why are you using IE5?
