Cannot boot in Safe Mode or last known...etc

Was innocently trying to remove a Trojan call smitfraud-c.
After reading various articles and dowloading some software thar captures some codes etc. I had to boot up in safe mode, however I am not able to get anywhere.

1. In safe mode I get a string of 30 or so lines then laptop freezes.

2. In normal mode it gets to the screen with XP logo then freezes on a screen used by System Mechanic.

I am not at home so dont have my XP Pro disc.
Can I use someone elses XP home disc to repair or am I stuffed.

Thanks in advance to anyonr who can help.

Yes you can use someone elses XP CD for a repair as long as you use your own product number from the sticker.
