Cannot boot PC

  bluetwo 09:20 25 Mar 2015

Recently I was given a PC, a small tower type, with XP SP3 installed. I found that the DVD player was faulty so I bought, and fitted, a replacement - which was stubborn. I tried to re-install XP (this was before I found out that XP was already installed) but before I could boot the CD the screen went blank. It was after this that I checked the hard drives using a HD enclosure. I had to format the slave before I could use it but the Master (200GB) has a lot of items on it, including Windows. It is a nice little PC and would be useful for my grandson but how can I find out(inexpensively) what's wrong? Thanks in anticipation.

  1. how do you know its XP sp3 if it won't boot?

  2. put the drive back in and reboot it will turn black but leave it for awhile its propably loading drivers remember XP can take up to 15mins to boot especially id low memory and an ex office machine with sercurity scripts.

How can I be of any help? Would you like to get the data from your HDD or interested in installing a fresh copy of WINDOWS XP?
