can your burn data to a dvd in a cd r drive

hi,
I have a question. Is it possible that i could write data etc to a dvd in a cd r drive.
or do u have to have a dvd r drive to burn to a dvd

No and Yes.

You need a dvd writer to write to a DVD, CD writer is older technology and for CDs only.

DVD is backwards compatible so you can usually write CDs in a DVD writer but not vice versa.

silverous is indeed correct, you can only use a DVD in a DVD compatible drive.
