I have a friend who went wanadoo BB about 4 weeks ago. He is on win 98se and has not had any problems whatsoever. Having said that I don't see a problem in buying your own modem/router either.

According to wanadoo you can have a "connection only" option click here.

"Finally, if you already have a Broadband modem, just want to connect a games console or want to buy your own equipment then our Connection Only Option is for you."

I have Wanadoo BB which was supplied with external USB modem. I use, with no problems, an internal card modem which I had previously installed.
