Can spy ware operate past a Firewall

If any Spyware or adware got into the computer would it be stopped from sending out info by the Macafee Firewall?Presume then you would see the offending program and remove it or are they only removable with specialist software?

download Spybot or Spywareblaster to keep spyware off your PC. A firewall (properly configured) will warn you if your PC wants to send info to any unauthorised site. But don't forget to keep it all up-to-date

I have Norton 2003 Anti-virus,Firewall & System works and yes they can get through. The latest spam-ware is quite clever. I use ad-aware 6 and spybot on a regular basis to keep the system clean

Further to sil_ver's posting, download BOTH spybot and spywareblaster.

Spybot will keep some malware off your system but this is primarily a scanning tool to find and remove spyware. Spywareblaster will keep items from installing on your system in the first place.

I'd also download AdAware. Using both AdAware and spybot works well as one will find something the other misses.
