Can Monitor Stop Boot Process

  BBez 22:49 21 Jul 2006

this is a strange one. picked up a friends pc that was hanging on the boot process even after passing post. i took the tower to my house, hooked it up to my monitor, kboard, mouse etc and it worked fine, did the same at my girlfriends, worked fine.

When i took it back to friends house, plugged it all up and it hangs again on boot. removed kboard, mouse, speakers and basically, only had monitor connected after setting BIOS to halt on nothing and it hangs again, even though it passes POST.

Can a fault in the monitor cable prevent PC starting..?

any help, thanks in advance...

Yes monitors/and therefore their cables too, can cause strange happenings - I even had a monitor once that corrupted an XP installation. I was so sure it couldn't be so, that after a Windows reinstall away from the clients, I connected the monitor again (with the same results :-((

A replacement monitor cured things.

thanks DieSse. First time it's happened to me. Never knew it could happen.
