Hi All.

Is it possible to use Avast to virus scan downloaded files?

If so how do I do it?

If not can anyone suggest a free antivirus that will?

thanks in advance.

If you right click the avast ball beside your clock and click on-access protection control

I'm sure this is what you are looking for - good luck.

R.C.M.`s answer set`s the defaults for each of the Avast Shields. If you`ve already downloaded a file, open Windows Explorer and right click it then select the Avast Icon "Scan [File Name]" option.

As has already been stated, avast scans all files transferred from the web by default in the Web shield, but if you're using a file downloader like Leechget that gives you an option for an additional scan, the avast file you need it to target is "\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe"

If you right click your downloaded file, you should see an avast icon in the context menu. Left click this and it will scan the file.
