Can I PING through wireless router

  daba 21:55 23 Dec 2007

Trying to get my printer shared so the other PC on wireless can print to it.

Both PCs running Win 2K Pro, both in Workgroup called WORKGROUP, and I can see and transfer files to, the other PC's folder shares in "Computers Near Me".

But neither PC can PING the other PC, I just get "Request Timed Out". Is this because PING doesn't work through thw Wireless link ?

Router or other machine's firewall may be set to ignore pings (ICMP messages). Ping the router instead, if you get no response then the check the router settings. Additionally, I take it you are pinging the NAT address provided by the router to the other machine, not your public IP address.

thanks brundle - should have thought of the multiple firewalls - oh well, so long as Windows network works through them that's all I'll need to get printer sharing working.
