Can any HDD be used as/with a caddy?

Thats it realy, I was wondering if it might be a good idea as I have a lot of home video to capture and edit . I thought I could use more than one hdd to capture onto and chop and change drives as required. It would also be handy as an off site store for the more important files. But can you use any HDD?

Put a HDD to an external enclosure or buy an external HDD.

As long as you keep the jumper settings to "master" for your permanent O's drive, And slave for the drives you are swapping, there should be no problem.

I was asking because I have a hdd that is spare at the moment and no space in the case for it. I actualy have 3 hdds in the case at the moment one is mounted in the space for a cd rom drive and the other two (original) drives in their proper mounts, My third drive is connected to a pci card that has 2 iede chanels, so I could in theory put another 3 hdds on to the system, but like i say there is no more space in the case. so a removable drive would be the answer for the moment.
