cable replacement

I have finaly traced an intermitent fault down to a loose cable connection at the motherboard on the 7pin red cable from the hard drive. The cable does not fit securely into the connector and does not keep good contact either slowing the computer down or stopping it. Both ends of the cable fit loosely into their sockets and reversing the cable is no better.
For a replacement cable, do cables come in different standards/qualaties?, or what other options are possible

Presume from your description that you are talking about the SATA cable.

There are always cheaper less well made cables so replace it with one that comes from a reliable source. Most are non-branded and as they are not expensive you can possibly afford to try a couple of different ones to get a good fit.

In terms of options then not much. Different lengths and some have right-angle connector on one end.

Hi FreeCell
Yes as a novice I believe it is the SATA cable.
How will I know if I am dealing with a reputable make or supplier?
