Hi Guys

I have a cable modem attached to my pc from virginmedia. I want to add a wireless router to access my laptop wirlessly. Whats the best way to go about this configuration wise. I know i need a cable / ADSL router but how do i setup? Do i connect the cable modem modem to the cable router via ethernet ( which cable cat5 or crossover ) and then use a cat5 to connect to my existing pc to setup the wireless router. Any help appreciated.

First you need a wireless CABLE router not ADSL.
All cables are straight connections NOT crossover.
Start with everything powered down.
Disconnect the cable modem from the computer.
Connect the WAN/Uplink socket of the router to the cable modem with a normal Ethernet cable.
Connect the computer to one of the LAN sockets on the router with a normal ethernet cable.
Switch on the modem and wait for the lights to settle.
Switch on the router and wait for its lights to settle.
Finally boot up the PC.

Once you have an Internet connection you can see about setting up the wireless side of things for your laptop.

I take it you mean all cables are standard cat5 ethernet cables
