To e-do and brundle, thought I would up date you both by this post. Was in touch with my brother this weekend by phone and he was able to run me through what was on hard drive seems those two large blocks were useless folders left over from the previous 'system set up' (my words very techie!:-)any way he told me to delete each file in there, then delete folders, delete recycle bin. If you recall in my previous post I described them thus ... ( arc_ (hash)1106123601994 = 14.256 MB & objects 17 kb wasted 53% of Parent. The above example is followed by a similar one giving a a total of 6.469 MB or 24% of parent) They didn't contain much anyway but were allocated a lot of the drive.
The thing is now my C drive has 8.65 GB used and 26.5 GB free, which is a reversal of the previous reading, and something like I thought it should be.
I would not have done what he told me to do as I would have been fearful of the consequences, whereas he has spent best part of his working life in computers and has a pretty good idea of what he is about.
Glad to say I didn't have to reformat hard drive for obvious reasons, thanks again for all your help.
