Buying a scanner? Help!

  BurghBhoy 21:49 21 Aug 2007

Planning to purchase a photo scanner to scan old photographs onto PC to store, send & print.
So many scanners out there, of varying prices. Can anyone recommend a good one for what I want to do?
How much should I be looking to spend for a decent system?
Should I buy an all-in-one printer,copier,scanner?

I have an Epson Perfection 3490 and can thoroughly recommend it. Mine cost over £100, but they are very much cheaper now, I think about £70.

I have the Epson Perfection 1250 they are very good scanners

Is Epson one of the best makes then?
HP seem to do some with 4800x9600 resolution for around £60/70, is this OK?

HP ones are ok I guess, but I have always used Epson. That does look a good price though.

I've got a Xerox 4800 scanner that I occasionally use for the same purposes you require and I think it's brilliant. I got it at PC World Xmas/New Year sale 2005 for £30. So if you can wait, the sales produce some good buys.
I used to have an Epson Perfection, very early model and Until it died it was a fantastic "workhorse".

I have an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo. (Cost £149 when I bought it).

Not only scans photo's but will also scan slides and negatives but it is discontinued now.

I believe the Epson 3490 also does slides and negatives.

Just done a quick check on the Epson 3170 and it appears are selling it for £23.48!!!

Must be the best bargain of the year.
