If I bought a large HDD I know the size viewd will be limited because my xp cd is pre sp2.

once sp2 update is installed does the whole drive then become visible?

[tried slipstreaming but only have an upgrade xp cd which does not seem to work]

How large a hdd are you thinking of, I am still on xp-home sp1 and my 250 GB and 300GB drives are completely visible.

Why haven't you installed the updates? It's unpatched computers that contribute to the enormous spam problem - they're so easy to infect and turn into spambots. It's not only daft, it's selfish not to keep your Windows installation patched.

In Windows, click on Start->Run, enter "regedit".
# Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters registry subkey.
# From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD Value.
# Enter the name EnableBigLba, then press Enter.
# Double-click the new value, set it to 1, then click OK.
# Close the registry editor.
# Restart the machine for the change to take effect.

Sunny maybe im a little confused as is Kate b

Why do you not update to sp2,its only a matter of a download or if you have sp2 on disc is to slipstream this into xp.

i had recenly ran a long thread on slipstreaming. i can install xp on a hdd then install sp2 on the hdd and it installs ok & integrates. But if i try and do the same to a folder following verious web sites the sp2 folder fails to integrate with the xp folder. exhausted the forums experts solutions.

thats why i am a bit iffy about buying a large hdd.
