I am going to buy XP to use at home, would you advise Home or Pro because I have been told "Pro is so much better"?

can't see any difference (except the cost). If you're running an office you MAY want Pro, otherwise only if you want to empty your wallet. Who are these people who say Pro is "so much better"? where do they use it? have they used Home? have they bought it themselves, or are they using it at work (paid for by employer?)

with all that entails, go for the Home edition of WinXP. The Professional edition is just that - an edition that was intended for Professional/corporate users in a networked environment, and the extra cost would bring you no real benefits in terms of useability.

Buy home and with the money saved by an external HD for backups...this will be of much more use.

After reading PaulB2005 I think Home will be fine. The person recommending Pro worked in PC World!
Thanks for your help.

about buying an external hard drive for backups is sound. You'll be glad you did it when the awful day dawns, and your internal hard drive goes belly up.

Note the FE's terminology: "WHEN the awful day dawns, and your internal hard drive goes belly up." It will dawn, sooner or later, I'm sure.
