Built a PC but DVD Multi Drive Very Very SLOW

  JimmyFixIt 20:38 25 Dec 2007

I've just built my own PC.

I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard and an LG Super Multi Drive connected via IDE. I'm running Windows Vista but whenever I use the Multi Drive it's so slow it's unuseable. Everything else about the PC is fine (very quick - Quad Core etc) but whenever I try to use the drive it will take ages to respond, if I try to copy data from a DVD / CD to my desktop it just sits calculating for minutes even for a 10MB file.

I've reinstalled the latest IDE contoller drivers and also checked that the jumpers on the multi drive are set to master (which they are).

Can anyone help? It's even slow when first installing the OS (took about 90 mins to install Vista) so I don't think it's an OS driver issue. I've also tried changing the power connector for the drive. Only things I haven't tried is replacing the IDE cable OR changing the IDE port (motherboard only has one) OR replacing the drive itself. Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

Check your DMA settings;

You should be set to DMA and not PIO,this tool will do the job for you click here
