hi,
different thread from earlier;
i'm going to build a new pc for a present and have recently changed my operating system from xp pro to vista home premium. can i install my (legal) copy of xp pro (full version,not oem or upgrade) onto the new machine?
cheers!

Yes, no problem as long as it'll be installed on only one system at any given time. G

... so long as the Vista Home Premium was also a Full Product, not an upgrade of the XP Pro...

If it was, then theoretically, the old XP is no longer valid.

If both are Full versions, not OEM, then you're just fine with the old XP.

thanks, vista was a clean install, not an upgrade; i had picked up a backdoor virus that i couldn't get rid of and i had been (kindly)given vista home premium (new)by my son some time ago but hadn't wanted to install it due to the bad press vista was getting! however i'm plesentlysurprised, now, with s/p 2, my p/c is running quicker than it did with xp pro!
