Is BT Hub any use for Tiscali connection?

OS. XP Home

I currently use Speed touch 330 DSL modem for my 512Kbps Tiscali connection.
(My local exchange does not allow Tiscali access to full broadband)

My son-in-law gave me his BT Home Hub router. I bought a Netgear 54Mbps Wireless adapter thinking that I could have wireless connection. Whether by design or my ignorance about wireless connections – the set up does not work.

My question is: Would a Bilkin or Netgear G+ modem router resolve the problem?

Many thanks

I did try but found the subject too much for me.
I shall buy a suitable modem router.
My thanks to you anyway.
