BT Broadband same message!

Going on nearly every webpage comes up with the same message
'installation of the comonent failed. Please try again later or choose 'windows update' under the internet explorer 'tools' menu to install this component'
and when trying to go onto windows update where you click scan for updates then it doesnt and stays on 0% and doesnt do anything!

Any ideas?

I had this issue for about 2 - 3 days after I installed XP Pro.

One day it went mad and Dled for about an hour!

Dunno why.

Sorted now.

how did it become 'sorted'

To be honest I don't really know!

I left the BB connection on all the time I was at home (I have zonealarm and NAV on fulltime) and turned the automatically check for windows updates on.

At the time it wasn't really an issue per se as I has service pack 1 on a disc, so I was Dling something from Tucows and I suddenly had a 'windows update' agreement window pop up, which I accepted and Xp DLed about 12 - 15 critical files.

As I now have BB I have every main program I use automaticaly checking for updates as I don't really notice until they tell me there is one
