Hi all, new to setting up adsl connections (calbe is so much easier!)
My cousin is on BT openworld & the internet connection is fine - spot on in fact. He was previously registered with Sky but this never worked & they left him with the free Netgear DG834G wireless router.
As soon as i connect router to pc & adsl to line in...internet connection fails. I have been able to get into ip address to make amendments but unable to configure router/pc to accept wireless router. I called Bt & got through to India! & they gave me a load of settings but i've no idea to change them.
PC will remain hardwired to router, when/if get it working PS3 will be running wirelessly.
These were the settings they told me to use:-
Connection type = PPPOA VCI = 38
VPI = 0 encapsulation = vcmux
moderation = g.dmt rfc = 2364
network type = wan mtu = auto/normal_1458-1500
qos = ubr
username = [email protected]
password = bt (blank or bt)
with an ip of 192.168.0.1
Can anyone give me any help...i'm getting nowhere quick & if i had any hair...i would have torn it out by now!!
many thanx if anyone can help

You are using the free sky netgear router and trying to connect to BT BB.

I am sure with sky the username and password are flashed into the router and can't be changed.

not even with a reset? is there no way around this, is this the reason it won't connect...due to the fact Bt needs its own password/username & not sky's?
i know these are basic Q's but i'm not too hot on adsl stuff.
thanx for reply tho.
