Windows XP computer. I switched it on and up comes BSOD with Unmountable _boot _ Volume.
I have tried f8 for safe mode and i get all the options but what ever one i press the same blue screen pops up.
I want to try and sfc /scannow but cant get past that blue screen

I think i am going to have to do a Repair.
What do you think ?
Thanks guys

I'm afraid it sounds uncomfortably like a hard drive failure. Are you getting any activity on your hard drive light? Any clicking sounds?

You could try booting from your XP CD and running a repair installation.

Sorry - I cross-posted with VoG™. Obviously try his suggestion first.

I got to the bit where i typed in chkdsk and it now says Chkdsk is performing additional checking or recovery and has now stuck on 50% completed.I cant type exit as it wont take it.

# At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.
# At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
# After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.

So does it look like i write Chkdsk then exit straight away ?

Thanks Fruit Bat /\0/\ and Pineman100.
Fruit Bat /\0/\ your suggestion is same as Vog and i am stuck on the 50% completed. Think i leave it and see if it moves on to more but doesnt look like it will as disk is not spinning.

My Guess is the MBR on the drive is Corrupt. Start with Operating System disc and go to Recovery Console Type Fixboot or FixMBR press enter after the above

You need to do a Disc Scan after For Errors on the Drive

Thanks woodchip. I tried to do a repair but it doesnt recognize my c drive.
I try your way now.
I got feeling its hanging on 50% cause of errors on disk.
before this happened the computer froze and i just switched it off on the tower and switched it back on.
Shouldnt have done that ,i know.
Thanks
