My computer (Windows Vista) suffered an unexpected closure and when restarted advised a scan for faults. When completed it now sows on the brouser that Brousing is not safe ---Auto Protect off.How do I fix this?
It is probably the auto protect function of whatever you scanned your PC with.
But how do I get the auto protect back on?
can't tell you that until you tell us what prog you scanned your PC with!!!

The "auto protect" function will apply to an A/V prog like norton not windows..
