When I print on my Brother HL1250 printer, the paper is covered in a light layer of toner. This is giving a dirty grey look to the whole page. It has been sugested that the drum needs replacing. I have also been told that one shouldn't use the old toner cartrige with a new or diferent drum unit but it should be kept with the one it has been used to.

Can anyone give me some advice, as I have ordered a compatable replacement drum and don't want to spoil it by doing the wrong thing.

Thanks to any specialists in this field if they come up with the answer.

I had the identical problem on my Brother HL 1200 series printer last year and like you thought of replacing the drum. However the problem was solved by simply changing the toner cartridge.

The problem has not reappeared since.
