Broadband upload speed

I am currently on 512 kbps broadband and I know that this has a download speed of 512 kbps and an upload speed of 256 kbps.
What I plan on doing is trying to get the 1mbps service when BT updates it's online ADSL checkers at click here on 6th September 2004.

What I would like to know is if I am ABLE to upgrade would the upload speed stay the same at 256 kbps?
Or with a faster download service like 1mbps does the upload speed go up as well to say 512 kbps?

With most ISP's i think it's the same 256 kbps.

Unless you go for SDSL. Which has the same upload and download speed.

It can vary depending on your ISP and the type of contract. My ISP for instance offers two types of 1 MB account. The home account still uploads at 256 [244Kbs] but the Home/Office account offers both a lower contention ratio and upload speed of 576 [512Kbs].

I have contacted AOL last night by their online help chat and they said that the upload speed would stay the same at 256kbps if I upgrade.
Thanks for the info though.
