Broadband Tweaks

I am using a Thompson 530 Modem connected via Ethernet "Always On" I am using XP Pro.
Max MTU seems to be set at 1500.

Does setting the RWIN really make a difference.
Sometimes I find it does using DrTCP and other times it seems to make little difference at all.

Speedguide says I can set it to various values ie
64240 (multiples of MSS x 44)
Broadband reports tells me to set it to a maximum of 29200 (MSS X 20)

Can anyone help, in simple terms, a confused person?

It seems to work better on a max MTU of 1430 and an RWIN of 27800.
