broadband surfing...stuck.

Hard to know how to title this issue.

Trying to update father-in-law's machine after placing a new dial up modem in it for him.

His updates are very behind, and it seems logical to use my wireless broadband for this.
I have the wireless connection up and running.

However, when trying to go to the bbc home page, it sends me to:

(w. dropped so you can see the address in full- not a link)

I am stuck on this page and cannot move at all.

I am placing a USB reciever into his machine via a USB 1 plug. All the icons are up and reading the signal, and I have successfully inserted the WEP details.

I have Googled this message with no real success. One other forum thread concluded by saying he disabled the proxy setting on a LAN connection on his PC, but I can't find anything like this here.
Orange want 50p/minute if I call...they can run and jump.

Yours stuck.

IE -tools - internet options - connections -your connection:-

USB 'dial up' modem have the Proxy box unchecked

try selecting the LAN settings and unchecking the Proxy box there aswell.

You should then be able to chang the home page.

That was one place I had not looked.

Many thanks indeed.

I love this forum.
