Can anyone help me to understand the following figures.
On passing the cursor over the first of the BB icons on the Notification tray this is the reading: Tiscali Broadband
Speed 2.2Mbps
Sent 1,503,519 bytes
Received 29,900,687 bytes.

The second set are as follows
Speedtouch ADSL Modem
Sent 2,531,227 B
Received 33,875,851 B

Speed 2.2Mbps - The speed your connected at. Reasonable for a 3mbps connection
Sent 1,503,519 bytes, Received 29,900,687 bytes. - how much as been sent this session

The second set are as follows - you never say what it says they are shown as.
Speedtouch ADSL Modem - modem model
Sent 2,531,227 B Received 33,875,851 B - It sounds like you have had a time out. The first set of figures are from before the computer lost the connection, the second since it has been connected.

Both sets of figures are exactly as they were shown with Mbps, bytes and B in the correct places. As tou say I`m on a 2MB connection so when I saw the received figures of 29+ million bytes (29MBps) I thought Tiscali had flipped their lid.

2.2MB on the connection panel is the maximum speed of which your line is capable with your current connection.

Mine use to be 2.3MB. Actual connection speeds were from around 1.5MB to 1.9MB depending on time of day and overheads.
