How accurate is the Speed Checker on the PC Advisor Site. Everytime I check I always get exactly the same reading, not matter what time of day. When checking other Speed Sites I get different readings.I am on Virgin Cable but the speeds do vary.

This is my preferred one:

Try a few different servers; I live in NW London, but find the Maidenhead one better.

There is an excellent speed test at thinkbroadband.com:

Requires Java.

I also use buteman's link regularly.

Interestingly I've just been to Poundland and spotted a Belkin high speed Ethernet cable; decided to risk the pound coin.

Did a speed check at bbmax with original cable (6.4MB on TalkTalk) and then swapped it for the new one.

First reading was a fraction over 10MB...:-)

Ran a series and figures ranged between 6.7MB and 7MB, although the best I've had in the past has been 7.2MB. Later very close to the limit for an "up to 8MB" service.

Should read: "Latter very close..."

Just tried anchor's London speed test link (it seems to be from the same source as bbmax) and got 7294kb/s and 7081kb/s.
