Anather problem that someone may have an answer.
Windows 98SE all updates applied
Wanadoo broadband with Thomson Speedtouch 330 modem . For no apparent reason the system can be stable and hold connection but then go unstable and connection is lost. Both lights on the modem go out, so it is getting no power from the USB yet the connection icons in the bottom right desktop are still showing. All updates from wanadoo or Thomson are applied Any suggestions ??

It may be that your modem is faulty, alternatively it could be a problem with the line to your ISP. The easiest way to check is to obtain a replacement modem from your ISP and see if it makes any difference. Unless your system is severely underpowered it is unlikely that the USB supply is being cut off.

The modem needs to be on a USB hub on its own, nothing in the second port.

Some motherboard chipsets had power issues, one way around the problem was to use a powered USB hub.
