When switching on the computer everything goes OK the modem goes through it's normal seqence but then i get an error message which says there is insuffient USB bandwidth, there is nothing else connected to the USB ports. This has only recently started to happen. BT have recently corrected a fault on the line & sometimes a sound like someone dialing out can be heard. Can any one point me in the right direction?

Have you turned of the ordinary modem when you started to use the broadband one.
You can do this by (when interent explorer is open) clicking on tools..internet options...connections, then untick the "never dial a connection". you should then be using the broadband modem only.
