Broadband Download Problems

  Widows Son 14:35 27 Oct 2006

I'm running XP with Talktalk broadband through a router with zonealarm and firefox 2

Over the last few days I've been unable to download any file greater than about 1mb - I can surf as normal

I cannot even run ADSLguide's Broadband Speed Test. I've tried disabling Zonealarm with no success. Are Talktalk stopping me downloading?

I've the downloadhelper plugin installed but can't download using this either

I've also tried Opera and IE7 with no joy

and it worked fine so it must be something to do with my pc. I've ran counterspy and Avast in safe mode but they found nothing.

I think its working fine as when I connected my laptop up to it the problem didn't appear.

try a system restore to a date when you didnt have the problem

Maybe your pc needs a spring clean ;) If you have any pc optimiser programs then I'd delete them,ie winoptimizer (ashampoo) or freeramxp..etc.

Then, and only when you've uninstalled other optimising progs, try running this one. click here

Will automatically use windows defrag utility and so on. Highly recommended by another forum member and I endorse that.

Didn't sort it - I'll retry with defrag

Sorry, but I think it's TalkTalk. 2/2 people I know with it have had nothing but problems. Everyone thought Sky would be rubbish, but with a free 108mb/s that would cost £99.99 from PC World I can't complain. Haven't had a single error yet. If you have Sky go with their broadband.

so can't change - besides if my laptop can download using the same connection its very unlikely that its talktalk's fault
