Broadband connection problems

I have just received my wanadoo broadband package and tried!!! to connect. I have my p.c. upstairs and my telephone socket downstairs so i am connecting my microfilter through a telephone extension lead. I connect everything as per instructions in the c.d. and books and after i turn my p.c. back on i either have a blank screen with a flashing curser in the top left corner or it starts in safe mode and goes directly to the help page. I hope someone can help me as i am a novice on the p.c. Would buying a second telephone socket for my bedroom help? I could then connect directly the microfilter to the socket? thanks, jeanette(hopefully)

Try moving the PC down to the phone socket to see if the lead is the problem.

Thanks for the reply, but i have just phoned the helpline and on the second call!!!!(i dread my phone bill lol) we eventually found the problem(i hope) i was told to uninstall broadband and they would send me an updated driver disc as they thought that was the problem. has anyone else had this problem as well? jeanette.
