Broadband connection

Hi - can anyone please help.

I switched over to Orange Broadband recently and for the first 45 minutes or so after logging on it works great. Unfortunately, after this time it gradually starts to slow down to a crawl and then refuses to load any pages. However, Outlook Express still continues to function OK. I have checked with Orange & they say that the connection is working OK. If I log off the internet altogether I am unable to reconnect. The PC is about 6 years old and the os is ME. any advice will be appreciated.
