I am getting cable broadband , do I need an NIC as well as the USB modem to be provided with the service and why ?Thanks for any help in advance !
Which cable broadband provider? I think you have a choice of two.
USB is very resource hungry and you are less likely to have as many (if any) lockup problems with a NIC. Also it frees up a USB port.
OK then you need a NIC card. The Telewest engineer will fit one if you don't already have one. They will quote you a price for this before installing it.
I can fit an NIC tomorrow , do you know what make the modem is that they provide ?
I'm with Telewest and my modem is a "Surfboard SB3100" if that helps you at all. My son also has one. Can't say I've ever heard of them before but it works OK!Geoff
Have had a look at the modem , here's looking forward to an easy installation !Pikaser
